Windows 7 was integrated with some very practical functions with the Aero-design language. These can also be emulated in other versions of Windows.
The Aero-design language introduced in Windows 7 did not only introduced more or lesser transparent screen elements but also useful functions such as AeroSnap, AeroShake or AeroPeak for controlling windows. Sadly, older Windows versions do not have these features and the transparency is lost in Windows 8. However, the functionality is partially retained. If you wish to extend, individually configure or use the Aero functions on an older computer, then the freeware AquaSnap can be used to achieve this. There’s really not much configuration to be done and the program requires little resources and runs on all Windows versions. This practical tool can be easily downloaded from our website.

Extend Functionalities

After the installation, you will find AquaSnap in the info area of the task bar. You can quickly switch the tool “On” and “Off” via the context menu and also configure it via “Settings”. Familiarise yourself with the individual tabs and adjust the patterns individually. Apart from “Start with Windows”, the other options in the “General” tab should be activated. Steps 2 to 6 show the how you can take advantage of this tool further. It is best to always select the mode with “Aqua” in the name as it offers the most functionalities. If you do not wish to learn anything new, you can also easily interpret the pattern of Windows 7 with the help of the Aero
modes. In the “Appearance” tab, the options for “Visual Effects” and “Skin” determine the look of the Snap preview that indicates a change in the window. Here, select the most noticeable effects like an additional “Preview rectangle” and maybe the variant “BoxeyPink” as a “Skin”.
The transparency is obviously lost in Windows 8. Nevertheless, most of the Aero functions such as AeroSnap, AeroShake and AeroPeak are retained exactly as it is in Windows 7. Here, AquaSnap can be additionally installed and configured as described. However there are minor limitations such as being unable to minimise windows in the “AeroShake”
mode. “AquaGlass” is also handy as it gives you a quick glimpse through the active window. Additional tools are required if you still wish to have transparent window frames and other designs. It works well with Aero8Tuner. Aero Glass for Win8 is to-date the only tool which
implements the effect with the blur.
Here we go

1. Automatically arranged

Controlling the windows of Windows 7 can be enhanced significantly with the AquaSnap tool.

2. Latched

Select “AquaSnap (extended)” or “User-defined” as the mode in the “AquaSnap” tab for the “Independent Window”, to individually adjust how a window reacts to each action.

3. Aero in programs

Change the “Window type” to “Sub-window in a program window (MDI)” and configure the snap pattern regardless of the jump window settings, to be able to automatically arrange pictures in an image program.

4. Gentle Stretching

The “AquaStretch” mode offers additional stretching functions that are executed by pressing the [Shift] key. You can exclude certain directions of the functions in the area “Allow Stretching”.

5. Shaken or stirred?

Select the more practical method “Aqua-Shake” in the “AquaShake” tab to make a window temporarily transparent. The shake detection can be precisely adjusted by using the three controllers and tailored to suit your requirements.

6. Smart transparency

Activate “Enable AquaGlass” in the “AquaGlass” tab and slightly reduce the opacity using the slider/controller. With just a slight movement of the window you will be able to see if the settings are just the way you want it to be.

7. Adjustment in Windows 8

Use the “Aero8Tuner” for AquaSnap to customise the window colours and the transparency of the task bar. Full transparency can also be thus enforced.

8. Aero Glass for Win8

You can achieve suitable and blurry transparency similar to Windows 7, in Windows 8 only by using “Aero Glass for Win8”. Other system settings can also be made to the design.
